At the same time, the 777 will shift to the Taipei-Sydney run, taking over from the A350.
The swap affects two distinct periods during the winter schedule: from October 25 through December 15, 2026, and again from January 16 through March 27, 2027. Between those windows, the original aircraft assignments will return, suggesting the airline is responding to specific seasonal patterns rather than making a permanent change.
Reading the Fleet Tea Leaves
Aircraft swaps like this rarely happen by accident. Airlines treat their wide-body jets like puzzle pieces, constantly moving them around to balance capacity, operating costs, and passenger expectations. For Sydney, the winter schedule corresponds to Australia's summer, a high season for inbound tourism and outbound travel to Asia. The 777's capacity might be better suited to handling that volume, especially if the route is seeing strong economy-class bookings that benefit from the jet's seating configuration.
